What is the CDCP?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal government program that provides coverage for Canadian residents who don’t have access to dental benefits and have a household income of less than $90,000 a year.
The CDCP is not a free dental program and it’s not intended to replace existing benefits through work, school or private plans.
Who can currently apply for the CDCP?
-
-
Children under the age of 18
-
Adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate
Why double check your eligibility?
To qualify for the CDCP, you must meet all four requirements.
Before applying to the CDCP, you should check that you:
Don’t have access to dental insurance.
Have an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000.
Are a Canadian resident for tax purposes.
Filed your tax return for the previous year.
I qualify for the CDCP – will my dental care be free?
No.
The CDCP doesn’t provide free dental care. The government dental benefit only covers a part of the cost of your care. You may be required to pay for a portion of your dental care depending on your adjusted net family income. You may also have to pay the portion of the dentist’s fees that aren’t covered by the CDCP.
What services are covered by the CDCP?
Examples of services that could be covered under the CDCP include:
Cleaning, polishing, sealants, & fluoride
Examinations & X-rays
Fillings & root canal treatments
Complete & partial removable dentures
Oral surgery services, including extractions
